CHECK-POINTS
The settlements and their bypass roads (strictly reserved for settlers)
divide the palestinian territory into 3 zones. Israeli army controls Palestinian
circulation through 2 main check-points.
These
check-points are often closed for days restricting
movements of Palestinians, preventing them to go to work or visit
family, sometimes even obstructing access to ambulances. |
|

On our way to south Gaza we were confronted to the impressive military presence
deployed at check-points.
At Netzarim
check-point an ambulance had been waiting for 2 hours. We made a demonstration
and 2 tanks came, threatening to shoot us.

After
long discussions (about occupation,
peace, etc...) and negociations with the soldiers they opened the checkpoint.

At Abu Houli junction the checkpoint was closed. A long
line of cars and trucks waiting... since 5
days! Even for a 10 km journey people take blankets and food
with them, because they know they might be blocked for days at the check-points.
Again,
after threatening and long negotiations,
the soldiers opened the check-point. But without our presence, for how long
did they plan to carry on this oppressing and humiliating
closure? |
